Fundación Aladina

The program of improvements and services run by the Fundación Aladina can be divided into three principal areas:

Material Improvements

Over the past few years we have carried out a series of improvements. Those that stand out are the enclosure of the big terrace in the Niño Jesús Hospital and the installation of a WiFi network in the Hemo/Oncology Unit in the same ward.

We would also like to highlight the renovations made in the Nursing Staff Rooms, as the nurses are the drive and soul of the paediatric oncology wards. The Aladina Foundation, being aware of their great importance, collaborates in improving the staff installations so that their rest periods are as effective and healing as possible.

During 2011, the Foundation wanted to continue contributing to the improvements at the Niño Jesús Hospital, undertaking the following renovations in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit):

• Renovations and new furniture in the Nursing Staff Room in order to make the staff rest periods more pleasant and relaxing.
• There is a space in the ICU where the families can be near the patients, even if it is through a glass partition. We have furnished these areas with sofas so that the time spent there can be a little more comfortable.

We have carried out the following improvements in the Gregorio Marañón Hospital:

• Redecoration of the Hemo/Oncology Ward terraces by installing some wonderful trompe d'oeils converting each terrace into an unique landscape far from the hospital. We also furnished these areas with tables and chairs to be used in the warm weather months.
• Renovations in the Outpatient Unit of Paediatric Haematology: new floor, lights, furniture, fresh paint and other decoration. Every year hundreds of children and their families pass through this Unit and from now on they can enjoy a more cheerful and comfortable environment.

Patient Services

Aware of the large periods of time that children and tennagers suffering from cancer have to spend in hospital, we at the Fundación Aladina try to make their stay as agreeable as possible. To this end, we have arranged the following:

• WiFi installation, to allow Internet access across the entire Oncology area and UCI of the Jesus Child Hospital.
• oan of laptops, or WiFi adaptors, so patients can surf the Internet from their rooms or chat with friends and family.
• Loan of videogame consoles (PSP, Nintendo DS y Xbox), games and Films for individual use in the bedrooms.
• TDT installation.

Financial aid for families

The Fundación Aladina offers economc support for families of little means when necessary, for the parchase of prosthesis, or any other expense incurred as a resulto f their child´s illness.

In addition, the foundation contributes towards the parchase of medical equipment or any other item requested by Hospital medical staff.
